About me

I am currently a Product Designer at Vivint Smart Home, where I strive to create user-friendly and visually engaging experiences. I think every decision should be research-backed, even if the research is scrappy. My goal is to blend functionality with aesthetics, ensuring that every interaction feels effortless and meaningful.

I previously worked in fashion design and I continue to sew original garments as a hobby.

Beyond design, I love mountain biking, skiing, and hiking.

EXPERIENCE

UX Designer II | Vivint Smart Home - NRG

Dec 2023 - Present

  • Led 0→1 product design strategy and end-to-end execution for a new thermostat ecosystem spanning on-device UI, home hub flows, mobile app flows, and setup experiences for ~2M users, simplifying complex HVAC behaviors, connectivity states, and configuration logic into clearer, more intuitive workflows, resulting in a 67% reduction in task time (52s → 17s) and an increase in task success from 50% to 98% compared to the previous thermostat product

  • Owned strategy and redesign of a technician installation workflow for Vivint’s flagship thermostat, transforming an error-prone setup into a guided system with validation, incompatibility checks, and auto-programming; projected to reduce install errors by 60% and lower annual home-damage claims by ~$320K.

  • Designed proactive support experiences for thermostat failure scenarios, helping users understand and recover from runaway heating issues through clearer system feedback, support escalation, and reduced user burden in high-stakes moments, resulting in 75% decrease in call volume over 3 months

  • Co-inventor on three patents pending related to smart thermostat systems and interaction design

UX Designer I | Vivint Smart Home - NRG

Sep 2022 - Dec 2023

  • Led foundational research and synthesis in ambiguous problem spaces with Product and Industrial Design, uncovering how users perceive and define comfort; translated insights into product strategy and experience principles

  • Redesigned interaction models and information architecture for legacy thermostat controls across mobile and hardware, creating a cohesive, system-level experience across digital and physical touchpoints

  • Improved multi-device usability by simplifying navigation and interaction patterns; reduced task time from 9s to 3s, increased comprehension from 5% to 72%, and achieved 100% task success through data-driven design decisions

UX Design Intern | Vivint Smart Home - NRG

June 2022 - Sept 2022

  • Supported 0→1 lighting control experiences within the mobile app, including on/off, brightness, color, and temperature controls, translating complex device capabilities into intuitive user interactions

  • Conducted foundational discovery research using card sorting and mind mapping to inform IA decisions and align features to user mental models

  • Built interactive prototypes in ProtoPie to simulate real-world interactions and validate design decisions with user testing

Graphic Designer | Rhone

Nov 2020 - June 2022

  • Joined as a graphic designer supporting lifecycle marketing, retail, and brand campaigns before expanding scope into user experience design

  • Led design of Commuter Pant Fit Guide, creating structured comparison framework across five flagship styles to reduce decision time (click-to-purchase) by 17% and return rates by 14%

  • Increased add to cart rate by 11% by redesigning product detail pages to improve above-the-fold clarity, introducing modular icon systems and technical callouts translating complex product technology into scannable, benefit-driven layouts to improve product comprehension and purchase confidence

User Experience Designer | Smash.ai (Contract)

June 2020 - October 2020

  • Designed early-stage concepts and wireframes for a marketing analytics dashboard helping real estate agents understand and optimize their advertising funnel

  • Simplified complex marketing data (impressions, searches, clicks, and lead capture) into a clear results page with actionable campaign recommendations and geo-targeting controls
